Chapter IV

For most of Alistairʼs childhood and his adult life he had studied music. Hearing the sounds of the 21st century he instantaneously falls in love with a specific genre of music, Gothic Rock.

One night he was out walking the streets of Salem he looks thru a window of and old church, no longer in service. Alistair notices a girl dancing in the dark. She is as delicate and fragile as the dance she performs. He enters the church and sits quietly in the back pew and watches with fascination.  She stops to notice the dark figure in the back of the church and asks “Who’s there”? Very gently Alistair replies “Your destiny, my child”. Alistair inquires the young waif’s name. “My name is Juliana”. “Does Juliana have a last name”? He asked. “Juliana Anastasia”, she replies. The young lady told him she had lost everything in a fire and had no place to go; dancing was all she had left. “How would you like to dance forever in the darkness my child”? Alistair asked. “She had nothing else to lose, but perhaps something to gain”. She returned. So, she took Alistairʼs hand and they danced till dawn.

Alistair genuinely felt he was helping each of these women by giving them the dark gift; but as time progressed, he saw the error of this ways. The young girls of the new world were a different breed; yet he embraced Juliana as a kindred; he found her a sweet and pure soul, a young woman whom made his heart beat faster…
